I'm having trouble getting my chemstation back online after a computer crash. I'm trying to install ChemStation 3.00 on a Windows 98 computer. The software installs fine but after a reboot and (what I think) is a proper configuration, I get a "HP Chemstation is not running" error when I try to load the MS_Top software. How can I be sure my HP-IB address are correct in configuration? Would I need to change the select code from 7 to 6 bc I'm using an old HP82335 HP-IB card? Thanks for your time.

I can't recall the last time I configured this software with a 5970. I still have some 5972s running - those default to a card setting of 7, with an alternate suggestion of 11.
The MS HPIB default is usually 20. The GC is usually 15; this is set from a set of dip switchs that are accessible on the board at the right hand side of the 5890 GC.
Perhpas you can just plug GC into the HPIB cables, leaving the MS disconnected for now, and configure a GC only instrument. See if the software will talk to that. Keep in mind that the HPIB cables may be the culprit as well, they tend to fail after years of service.
I believe Cathy Leh (sp?) is pretty familiar with this stuff - she has a lot of posts under cleh on these boards.
