Hello, I am trying to set up a 7890 GC with a 5975 MS and I am receiving a "Mass Spec is already in use by another session" error. The computer has Windows 7 loaded on it and I'm using Chemstation E.01.00. I've tried power cycling the devices as well. It says it finds both the mass spec and the gc then loads the software until the green bar appears at the bottom of the screen and shortly after that the error message appears. I've even tried pinging the devices separately and they respond, both the mass spec at 10.1.1.102 and the gc at 10.1.1.101. I have the network card in the computer set at 10.1.1.100 with the subnet mask at 255.255.255.0. Any ideas how to solve this issue? Our IT department is trying to get us to update the computers from Windows XP to Windows 7 and I would really like to get this to work. Thanks in advance!
Go to the configuration screen to see if you have more than one instrument configured.

If only one call Agilent. I had the same issue when going to E0202 on windows 7.
Chemstation E01.00 won't run on Windows7. You need E02.02.
I've tried E.02.01 on Win7 and it does what you see.
In all seriousness, try unplugging the ethernet cord from the computer and then starting the software with only the instrument plugged in.
Unfortunately I have tried that but still no luck. I even disabled the network card that the GC/MS isn't using and I still receive the error message. I guess I'll just pony up the dough and get the E.02.02 version that is compatible with Windows 7.
This error can also mean that the binding order is wrong - Chemstation insists that the intrument network connection is found before your house network. Your IT guys should be able to check this.
