Dear all,
I am looking for a sensitive method of estimation of SMS by HPLC down to ppm level.

In solution, metabisulfite is in equilibrium with SO2, HSO3-, H2SO3, SO3=, etc. Any of the usual sulfite methods will work. AOAC 990.31 or the modified method in Dionex App Note 54.

Thanks Mark,
is it possible to analyse SMS by UV detection ?? as my formulation analysis uses UV detection.

I can't find the details, but according to Chris Pohl, UV is a viable option for detecting sulfite.
