Hello
I am looking for a paper describing the differences between Micro-ECD and ECD. It would be great if it contains both instrumental and performance aspects.
Thank you.

Are you asking about the Agilent products? If so, you can check for the literature on Agilet site. As far as I remember, miro-ECD is faster and its results are more reproducible compared to the older ECD. Maybe the micro has lower detection limits as well, but I am not sure.

Hi guys. I am looking forward to apply EPA Method 552.3 wich incudes a GC system with a micro-ECD detector but at the lab we only have a GC/ECD system. Does anyone knows if i could use a normal ECD instead of micro-ECD or these two detectors are not compatible with each other?
Thanks,
Alex

Alternate detectors may be used.
ECD and microECD work on the same principle. MicroECD has lower internal volume.

Micro-ECD has lower internal volume. Since ECD is concentration dependent detector it will be more sensitive than regular HP ECD. Best thing, buy the standard and see if you can see down that low. Pretty cheap experiment that could answer your questions.
Best regards,
AICMM

For that method the ECD should work. You may not be able to use the very small diameter columns. I think you can use a 0.32 column but I'm not certain.

Thank you all for the assistance!! Due to financial weakness of the lab, we decided to apply the EPA Method 552.2 wich uses a normal ECD detector. Hope we could reach the lower limits of the micro-ECD. I'll let you know.
Thanks again,
Alex
