Adding an ELSD to Star Workstation control

Hi All,

I am running Star Workstation 6.2 for a legacy HPLC system. In between the existing pumps and UV/vis detector is some sort of ADC board. I have acquired an Alltech 500 ELSD and am trying to figure out how to get the output into Star, ideally with the UV detector still online for dual detection. Though I could take the analog output of the ELSD and just swap it for the UV on the ADC board, does anyone know how to configure it so I can have both? I am a neophyte to the configuration of this instrumentation, but any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Nicole
Hallo

What is the Hardware of your HPLC system? Which pumps, detector .....are you using in this system?

Best regards
Chris
Hi Chris,

There are two HPXL pumps, one slaved. They run via ribbon cable into a non-descript box that I assume is some sort of ADC board, because it also has terminal lugs that accept as input the output from the Dynamax UV-1 detector, and for the injector contact. I am just hoping to somehow get the Star software to see the output from the Alltech detector (ideally) without disconnecting the UV-1. Thanks a bunch for taking a look at this :)

Hello

You will need some D/A converter vor reading the signal of the ELSD in the software.
I think the box you did describe is a CIM-Box, it

right side on this picture:

maybe you can connect the analog signal of your ELSD here.

Hi Chris,

I am not sure I fully follow you. The box I have does indeed look like the one in the pic you referred me to, but I always figured that was some sort of ADC, because the DC output of the UV-1 detector is already going into it. As you had suggested, In indeed plan to run the DC output of the ELSD into the same box, but there real issue is how to get STAR workstation software configured to even see this additional input.

Best,
Nicole
Hello

In system control, you can find a button "setup" in the prostar/dynamx window.
I think, in this window, you should be able to configure the CIM box. You will have to add a data acquistion/report block in the Method for the second channel to record the data.
But I am not sure if your CIM box has dual or single channel A/D, maybe the labels of the connectors can tell you more.

Best regards
Chris
Thanks Chris, we will give it a try
