Unusual small tailing peaks

I'm an inexperienced (eight months on a 20 hours per week job) trainee working at a quality control laboratory in Brazil.
Last Friday, while doing routine work, a small and highly tailed, but significant peak started appearing in our analyzes from one of the FID chromatographs, at around 4 minutes in a 6 min. run, in both samples and patterns. I found it very strange, because I haven't seen anything like that before, although it didn't interfere much with our work, so no one cared much about it, but I'm still curious. Any ideas about the cause?
