Does anyone have HPLC or GC method for determination of propylene glycol and triacetin (glycerol triacetate) in flavors? Our mixture contains about 50% of triacetin, about 2% of PG, and the rest is mostly limonene.
We had no luck on the net so far.

We commonly assay propylene glycol on non-polar capillary after dissolution in DMF and trimethylsilyl derivatization (there is a publication from about 20 years ago detailing similar for glycerin in bar soaps). The triacetin will not be affected by the derivatizing agent, maybe you could assay both from the same vial with same injection. To do the PG without derivatization, use a polar column such as a PEG phase or the phase listed for glycerin assay in the USP. Personally, I'd do the derivatization first, and do the triacetin either without derivatization or try combined.

I believe that health canada has published a series of methods for the propylene glycol and triacetin in tobacco analysis. Maybe you can adapt the methods to your own use. (you can just gooogle it to get the methods)
