Inexpensive Options for Thermal Desorption Tube Conditioning

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Hello --

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with thermal desorption tube conditioners? We have an automated thermal desorption tube system connected to our GC-MS, but we'd like to have a standalone system used only for conditioning, to help reduce wear and tear on our automated system. I have checked around, and it looks like a system will cost in the vicinity of $5,000 to condition 6 tubes at a time. Does anyone know of any cheaper options? I am looking at SIS and Dynatherm as the two best options so far.

Thanks!!

Hi,

We have a conditioner with 10 tube positions from Gerstel, check:

http://www.gerstel.com/en/TDS-Tube-Conditioner.htm

I have no idea about the price, since it was bought before my time (it's at least more than 4 years). It's a good system, however if you're doing ultra trace analysis it may require to be clean more often.

There is also the Markes 20 tube conditioner http://www.markes.com/en/instrumentation/tc20.aspx

My memory is hazy on the price. I thought it was not more than $2000 but that was 3-4 years ago. If your tube OD is different to 1/4" don't disregard their TC20. Markes can probably do something for other ODs.

When I used to do this full time I made my own 16 way manifold from SS Swagelok , vespel ferrules and a old lab oven, but that wasn't cheap either. In fact the Swagelok parts cost me over £1000 25 years ago.

The Markes TC20 is around £5000 now depending on your bargaining power of course. Works well though as as Mike stated it does 20 tubes instead of .

chromatographydude,

I can send you a couple of pictures of one that I have that was custom built. It goes inside a GC oven with external flow control. It will do 18 tubes at a time. If you want the pics, please post an e-mail for me to send it to.

Best regards.

Thanks, I would love to see the picture! rubyfan@yahoo.com

Appreciate it...

Could you please send me the pictures too? I have the same problem at the moment. We are sorting out an old GC so its oven could be used but still I have no idea about fixing tubes and splitting the carrier gas to the tubes...

Please send them to commander.keen@safe-mail.net

Thanx

Cmndr_keen,

I sent pictures to you. Let me know if you did not get them.

Best regards.

Thanx for the pics, I received them. I'll let you know if we finished our work. It's good inspiration!
