Data acquisition for varian 9050

Hello all I have just recently purchased a “Varian 9050 variable UV/Vis detector”. As I understand it this detector can be used as a standalone system or interfaced with a computer for data acquisition. Most opt for communication via GPIB IEEE 488 connection. However, I am looking for the cheapest possible way to acquire data.(student)
The detector outputs are as follows
• Data system output 2 aufs
• Chart recorder output (1mV-10mV)
• Peak sense relay
• Relay ports x4
• GPIB IEEE 488
What I am essentially looking for is a way to pick up the instruments analogue signal and somehow allow my computer to process the data. I read something about using the sound card’s “line in” with recording software to collect data. Could someone clear up how this is done?
