Hey Guys, just a question for people with experience running the agilent 5973 mass spec. This question came up at my lab and I am curious what everyone's opinion is. How often would you expect to run the Mass Axis calibration routine on a 5973? is it, as needed, daily... etc.

thanks!
I would do it every time I needed to vent the GC/MS.
If you run a tune check or check standard before running samples, I would do it if the mass assignments are off or if there's a sensitivity change. If you don't run a tune check or check standard before running samples, I would do it before each run. I would do as yama001 suggested, when I did any maintenance, or if I changed filaments. Always check the air/H2O to make sure you're leak free before doing anything else. Good luck.
I run mass axis calibration and peak width adjustment as the final step of any manual tune I do.
