API3000 vs API3200

Discussions about GC-MS, LC-MS, LC-FTIR, and other "coupled" analytical techniques.

Hello,

Since a few years we have experience with an API3000 LC-MS machine, however it is not ours. Now we are thinking of buying an own machine but our money is limited. We found the Sciex ABI3200 as an alternative. Does anyone know about the difference between the 3000 and 3200 in terms of sensitivity and stability? any experience is also welcome,

Thanks in advance

Peter
The 3200 makes use of the same Ionisation system used in the 4000 range changing from ESI to APCI is done by changing a probe not the entire front end. This Ionization design totally replaced that used in the 3000 model.

The 3000 requires more tweaking of the LC method as, if i recall correctly, it can't cope with high (> 0.5 ml/min) LC flows. the 4000 and probably 3200 can work at the 1 mL min flow level.
Good judgment comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
