According to my Agilent notes, G1701AA needs a Smart Card II in the 5971.

Thanks. So next question is, does G1034C work with WIN 98, and if it does, what are its differences practically from G1701AA which I am familiar with?

1034C is supposed to work with DOS/Win311 acording to my Agilent notes. I do have several customers sucessfully using 1034C with 5971's with Smart Card I/5890 Series II on Windows 98. Agilent never offered a version of Chemstation compatible with Win98, but a lot of people tried it and it worked for their applications. It definitely won't work on WinNT or Win2000. G1034C isn't much different than G1701AA so operation and data reduction shouldn't be an issue. The problem I have with it from a service aspect is the PC needed to run Win95 or 98 is so old. I just went crazy trying to get this exact set-up back on line. The PC had a bad mother board and if it were a more modern PC it would have taken less than an hour to get the instrument back on line. Instead, it took over a week. I had to find a similar PC (could not find the mother board) that had an ISA port for the GPIB card, a serial connector for the remote start, and a parallel port for the printer. Most of them seemed to be in worse shape than the one we had. I'm in the Boston area and I'm very lucky to have a lot of places to go for older replacement parts. Even with this down-time my customer feels this set-up works just fine for him and can't justify the cost of upgrading to be able to run the version of Chemstation compatible with WinXP. Hope this helps.
