Help deciding on a HPLC to choose

I have been tasked with searching for an buying a new HPLC for the lab. I have had limited use of HPLCs and have only a basic understanding. We currently walk across campus to do some purification and use our old Breeze(Waters) to do some more basic stuff. Our application for HPLC is to separate oligos which we have labeled or annealed. We do this using VYDAC C18 HPLC column (5um particle size) and Gen-Pak FAX column (2.5um particle size). The desire to upgrade is due to the want/need for a column oven, auto-sampler, a quad pump design, and photo diode detection, as well as a recent influx of funding. Currently, I am most interested in the 1220 infinity from Agilent and the Alliance from waters. I am under the impression that all (or nearly all) HPLC will be able to run these columns with good separation. If anyone can confirm that these systems can handle my applications I would be very relieved. I am trying to not get duped by a sales rep into buying more than we need, but also want to make sure that our system can do what we need it to do. Any and all input would be much appreciated.

Agilent and Waters are among vendors whose wares will be up to the tasks you propose. If you search around here a little bit, you will find other threads containing lots of other things that should factor into your decision (vendor service in your area, data system(s) in place, other stuff).

My choice was and always is Agilent. I think it is a better and more friendlier machine. They recently acquired Aurora SFC and you can have a choice (probably) to convert your HPLC system into SFC.

The system can be configured to meet both your application needs, budgetry requirements and is definitely one to consider!
