TPH - ultrasonic extraction

Dear Chromatographers.

We want to extract TPH from soils using the ultrasonic extraction method ( EPA 3550) intead of Soxhlet extraction especially because we have limited space available and for time issues, but the method does not include TPH extraction data, I would like to know if it´s possible to extract such analytes by ultrasonic extraction.

thanks a lot.

Sorry.

The 3550 does not include TPH, but 8015 shows a pair of examples in tables 6 and 7 about ultrasonic extraction for Diesel.

bye.

Certainly possible- would you be using gravimetric determination?
The problem may be regulatory- most (US) permits only use EPA 9071, the soxhlet method using n-hexane as solvent, since this is a "method defined analyte". Other solvents/extractions give different results.

Dear twranger.

Actually, the mehod we perfor is a GC-FID. The method 8015 include a pair of examples about Diesel ultrasonic extraction, I think we could use this technique for our soil extraction.

thanks for your help.
