Any body know of any methods that work for the analysis of glycols such as ethyleneglycol-monobutyl-ether, ethylenglycol, dipropylene, 1,3 propanediol, triethylene, propylene, diethylene glycol? Im taking over a project and supposivley the analysis of these was already tryed with GCMS but the method was too troublesome with carry over. Im looking at hplc methods and i see some with derivation , anybody any experience of this? any suggestions..thanks

All compouds have -OH group, which can derivatise by BSTFA or MSTFA and GC/MS analysis.
See this link for reference journal and adapt it to your work.

seamoro,
Glycols have been discussed a bit on the forum. Take a search. Can be done by GC with an FID and carbowax but not the prettiest thing in the world. Be very careful about water if you think about GC/MS, very hard beast to pump out of your system. Cannot be done without derivatization by HPLC since no sensitive detector for these constituents (at least as I see it...)
Best regards,

We've derivatized these with BSTFA and assayed by GC and GCMS for two decades or more.
Also, the MS spectra of these materials are much more definitive when derivatized than non-derivatized.
