Folks -- I'm trying to assist a friend in setting up an LC system and he has a copy of Empower2 and it simply will not install. The error message I'm getting follows:

Empower is unable to determine the version of Oracle installed on your computer. The Empower setup will now exit. Thank you.

The OS is XP-pro (SP3) & it's a fresh installation. It looks like an early version of E2.

Any wisdom would be deeply appreciated!

Are you sure you have admin rights on the PC?
Are you running a standalone installation?

Ace
Yes, it is a stand-alone installation and I will check on the latter. You've seen this before?

Yes, I do have admin rights. Thanks!

That's usually a licensing issue. I'd call Waters.
Thanks,

DR - Perhaps, but I don't think so. The software had never been installed anywhere before.

In that case, there is probably some sort of anti virus/malware/spam software interfering. If you can disable that, then install, it may work.
Thanks,

I've gone one step beyond. I purchased a new HD, am installing Win Xp Pro fresh, then going straight to E2. We shall see..If this doesn't work, then I'm officially out of ideas. I'm much better with hardware and separation development, honestly.

Thanks guys!

There are some known issues of virus scans interfering with running Empower, so why not while installing Empower?
Fixed the issue; with a fresh installation of the OS all went smoothly. Thanks to all for their suggestions and to BenW especially for his assistance.

Just for completeness, Waters deliver a 'special' Oracle-Client on the supplied medias. Using a generic Oracle installation will cause trouble.
yes, that was likely the problem. there was another Oracle installation on the computer.
hey guys, no need to speculate, we fixed this very quickly a while ago...
