Changing agilent 1100 deuterium lamp.

Just changed a lamp for a slightly different looking one but according to the p/n is ok. When turned on there is a purple light emminating from the back. Is this normal? The previous one had a black casing around ther back. This one doesn't for some reason.

It looks like the lamp is shine through type.
Visible light and UV light passes through the same axis with this type of lamp.

If it is striking and the energy is sufficient , no problem to use it.

I always worry about how much UV I'm getting exposed to when I see purplish light coming out of UV-creating light-fittings. It might be worth checking you're not exposing yourself to unhealthy levels?
