5971 electronics won't start

I just put together an old 5890 GC with a 5971 MSD in one of our labs. Running the Chemstation G-1701-AA ver A.03.00 software with an HPIB. The GC/MS/computer all communicate, tune, add monitors on the computer screen, edit method etc. all looks good. Vacuum is very good. When one trys to make a run everything is normal, GC starts fine but the override solvent delay radio button does not appear and the MS electronics do not start after the solvent delay. There are no error codes showing up at all. I have tried reconfiguring the system several times to no avail. Should I just re-install the software? Any ideas short of the dumpster? Thanks. Glenn

I need to ask: is the "Use MS" box have a check mark or X in it? That choice appears in one of the Method screens, try Edit Entire Method and confirm that.

Yes. I have used this version of Chemstation for several years and have checked everything I could think of. Thanks.

Did you install the remote start cable from the back of the MS? Also, what operating system are you using?

The remote start cable is connected but it does merit a look at, thank you. Using Windows 98 believe it or not.

I replaced the remote start cable and am now operational. Thank you for a nudge in the right direction.
