Is it possible to use MSD chemstation with an instrument with no MSD detector? G1701AA in particular with a 5890A with FID ?
Also is it possible to control another 5890 with a 5971A at the same time?

Chemstation G1701AA does not support detectors on a 5890, only an MSD. What revision do you have? Rev's A.02.00 and A.03.00 do support the 35900 A/D converter so if you have one of those, you could pick up the signal that way. These revisions also only work with Win95 operating system (some people use Win98 successully, but Agilent doesn't advise that). Revisions A.00.00 and A.01.00 don't support the A/D converter or detectors on the 5890...only the MSD. They need WFW 311 and DOS 6.2 as an operating system. You're bringing back memories!
You can control two 5890/5971 systems from one PC.

I was talking about the A3.00 version. So the next question is as follows. Would it be possible to install both Chemstation A06 and MSD chemstation A3.00 g1701AA to control both those instruments with a single pc? Would on HP-IB card suffice?
Also, are modern spectral libraries easily compatible with that particular version of MSD chemstation?

I also have an additional question.
Is MSD chemstation compatible with Chemstation A04 on the same computer to control 2 different instruments (one MS and one FID) ?
