Hi all,
Someone knows if we can use Haysep Q packed column for water quantification in Hydrocarbon gases samples?
Which other packed column can be used?

Q is ok.

However,

a better peak shape is seen when the R polymer is used, whether from Waters or Valco (Porapak or Hayesep).

The really big problem I see is what other hydrocarbons are involved in this analysis. It might be advisable to heartcut from one column (like a Q) to second column (like an R) to make sure the water is well separated from other hydrocarbons that may be present.

Of course, you are right, but anyone who asks which column to use to measure water is unlikely to be familiar with HC techniques and the associated hardware necessary to perform this task. In any case it would be better to use a dual carabon support/porous polymer column backflushed and then process the separation of water and hydrocarbons with a Wax column. Higher temperatures (better peak shape and fast analysis) could be used effectively to separate water and there would be less likely to have a porous polymer column blocked with higher hydrocarbons.

But this isn't likely to happen unless we hear from the original poster.
