Gas Chromatography for testing Medical Marijuana

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Can anyone recommend a GC to use for testing Medical Marijuana in Southern California?
Are you looking for a lab that does this or are you looking to purchase a GC?
swamisncc,

Just installed a 5890 GC to do this application. I will let you know how it goes if you are interested. For CBD,THC, and CBN it looks like a pretty straight forward application.

Best regards,

AICMM
I use an HP 5890 series II with FID and ECD. 7673 autosampler. Restek Rtx-5 columns. Hydrogen, air, and nitrogen as gases.

Acetone, methylene chloride, hexane, and methanol are commonly used as solvents. (no methChlor on the ecd)

You can do terpenes, at least 5 or 6 different cannabinoids, and a ton of pesticides (with some prep) with this setup.

Some days I find myself wishing for a GC/MS, tho...
any idea if the vernier mini gc would work for this? Cant beat the price plus air is the carrier gas. Also if the sample is dissolved in a solvent like methanol wont the methanol read on the chromatoghraph and effect your quantative analysis?
The waxes and oils will require some temperature to move them through the column. Do note that this instrument is limited to 120 degrees C - which would limit you to injecting only things that will elute from the column at that temperature. (Waxes and oils from plant materials would exceed this range.) Depending on what analyses you are attempting, a 11 m column needs to be thought through before you commit to it. And, there is no indiction of inlet liners that can be used or inlet termperture range. Note the target market for this: high school and coledge labs. This appers to be deigned for mixtures that would be given to students for demonstrating separations.
