I have read that is possible to use centrifugation for HPLC sample prep instead of of filtering trough .45um or 0.2 um

I work in a pharmaceutycal lab, with USP type products and would like to try it . Any one has experience using centrifugation for filtration that can share his experiece?

It sometimes works well with low volumes of injected extracts (<200 ul).
In fact you can centrifuge in the eppendorf tubes with high speed (e.g 14000 rpm). Its really effective.
More over, you can combine filtration with centrifugation using centrifugal filters (lots of options: different membranes, volumes ets).

I use centrifugation in a microfuge at top speed (14-18,000 rpm) for 5 min frequently instead of filtration. Faster, easier on the wrist, and cheaper than filters if you already have the microfuge. It doesn't always work--as with every other step of sample prep, you have to test it.

I have observed centrifugation in HPLC pharmaceutical sample preparations but as a matrix separation, like a clean up step, but it was not as a substitute of PVDF or PTFE 0.45um, our old and expensive friends. However, it could be a good ideia for cost optimization. It is need conclude the true applicability for pharmaceutical samples which have many low soluble matrix like tablets, ointments, creams. It certaingly has to be a interesting battle for the powerfull filter's producers/vendors. Let's see.
