I have started in a new company with bascially a blank slate for HPLC. Im setting up a method....ive created the instrument ment method set etc..but im having problem setting up custom field. I want to enter the following calculations...how do i do it??
[analyte]=(area of sample/area of standard)*[STD]*Dilution Factor

[analyte]=(area of sample/area of standard)*[STD]*Dilution Factor*(100/level of spike)

Thanks for your help

Not an Empower expert, but in Empower there is an amount field

amount = ((area of sample)/(area of standard)) * ((standard weight)/(sample weight)) * (Dilution Factor)

In the sample set, make sure to label the standards as standards and the samples as samples, you also enter the sample weight and dilution factor there. I enter then standard weight in the processing method. I leave the weight and D.F. for the standards as 1.0000 in the sample set.

For your first calculation you can just leave the sample weight as 1.0000 as well.

For the second one, I am not sure what you are trying to do, but you can create a custom calculation called spike X where X is your level and have it be.

spike X = amount*100/X

how does empower know what is for example (area of sample)?

it is the area of each peak in the sample injection that you are currently looking at at. It will calculate amount for each peak in your sample injections, assuming that you set everything else up correctly.

if i want to reference a result (unknown) from a calibration curve.....how to i multiple by a dilution factor?

Thanks for your time :)

Just specify your dilution factor in the sample set method (or in the sample set if after the injections have been made). Your dilution factor will be in the numerator of the calculation.
