Empower 2: Difference

Hello,
I would like to know the difference between "summarize custom fields" and "summarize custom fields incrementally" in the Empower Sample Set
I thought that incrementally means, that Empower calculates the inter sample calcs for the first line, then for first and the second line, than for the first three lines and so on, but it doesn't.
Can anybody tell me?
