Suffix of solid-sorbent material. What does this denote?

Hi,

I am beginner to GC-MS. Can someone explain me what does the number or alphabet that is suffixed to the
solid sorbent material mean?
For eg. Ambersorb 563, Carboxen 563, Carboxen 1016 and Carbosieve S III.

Just curious to hear someone's reply on this.

Thanks
Sangeetha.

There is no logical meaning to the appellations you describe.

They merely describe the material as far as the manufacturer 'named' it during the research process.

The 1016 material for example is a later development of a process which produced the Carboxen 1000 material. It has different physical characteristics from the 1004, or the 1006 varieties.

Carbosieve S-III was a development of the sorbent having different characteristics from the II sorbent.

The details are proprietary to the company producing the materials.

best wishes,

Rod
