We plan to purchase one ELSD for HPLC system. Does anyone in here know which brand and model is better?

Thanks in advance!

Go in ebay and buy it there (if you are a small company) for less than $1000. We bought 4 units (2 Sedere, 2 Alttech). I would suggest going with Sedere. It is very simple and very dependable. We are using these units daily for the last 5-7 years.

I wonder if you bought my old one!... My last employer had money problems and laid us all of and sold off all our equipment... I saw my old Sedere ELSD on Ebay a while back (I knew it was mine from the picture- which still had the company asset tag on it)

We are looking to buy a used ELSD and are looking at Sedere and Alltech. Which models of those 2 did you buy?

We bought from Agilent Who are selling rebdaged versions of the Sedere detctors. It was 5- 10K($) cheaper than the Alltech model (2 years ago). Our analysts are happy with it

However, be aware that repairs can be costly on the electronics. It has 3 boards costing 5.5 -7.5K depending on which need relacement.

I have had 2 Sedere ELSD units and have been basically happy with both. However, you may want to check out the ELSD models from SOFTA (www.softacorporation.com). I tried SOFTA model 300S and 1300 as demo units, and both performed quite well on a challenging normal phase gradient.

One advantage over Sedere is that these units have temperature control in the evaporation zone immediately after the nebulizer. This could make a huge difference in analyte detection and sensitivity. The Sedere does not have temperature control in this zone and does not have sensitivity for a particular analyte in my application.

Whatever brands you chose to consider, make sure that you insist on an onsite demo. Use the same HPLC, test methods, and analytes so a fair comparison can be made between all of the ELSD brands.

Good Luck!
