Hi everybody
I will buy an HPLC coupled to a diode array detector.
I hesitate between a Dionex Ultimate 3000 (LPG-3400SD pump, autosampler WPS-3000SL, oven TCC-3000SD, diode array detector DAD3000, Chromeleon software) and a Waters Alliance (e2695 Separations Mod. W / CH, detector 2998 diode array, Empower 3).
What do you recommend?
What do you think of the detector Dionex DAD-3000?
And what do you think of the pump waters?
thank you very much
I have not used Dionex U3000 but I've been a user for e2695/2998 PDA for a while and it's very reliable. There has not been any major issue and the pump is trouble free (we had it under service contract but so far no major replacements have been done).
The pumps are rated 350bar but can be pushed further via third party modifications. Note that I have not done this and by doing that will certainly void the manufacturer's warranty. The autosampler of alliance 2695 uses a side-draw needle which requires special vials to get total recovery of samples. The injection cycle is also a bit long by today's standards.
I would recommend you considering the Waters Acquity H-Class since it enables you to use "sub-2" columns and the dwell volume is substantially lower. Though it has an FTN-type sampler, it uses a bottom draw needle.
As far as I know the alliance autosampler cannot handle online sample derivatisation, which both Waters Acquity H-Class and Dionex U3000 are capable of, but I will stand corrected if I'm wrong.
I'd like to say every HPLC/UHPLC has its limitations, be it pressure limit, flow rate or price tag

Let your fellow chromatographers on this forum know your intended purpose for the HPLC so they can better advice you.
Disclaimer: I do not work for Waters or Dionex and I am no salesperson.
Cheers,
