Hello I have a doubt regarding the use of ethyl acetate for the GC/MS analysis of a mix of pesticides. Is it a suitable solvent for GC/MS analysis?. Everybody uses hexane or isooctane. Is there any potential problem that I should know. I principle I can´t think in any trouble on using it, but I may be missing something.
Thanks a lot

I'm not pleased with using ethyl acetate but it is required for EPA method 525. I buy the best quality available. I test it before use by concentrating 25 mls to 1 ml and inject it into my system. I have had lots of phthalates from some suppliers.
It depends on the analysis. I've ocasionally selected ethyl acetate on purpose. If transesterification is a potential issue, you may want to go with something else.

We use ethyl acetate for LL extraction. Which suppliers have or don't have phthalates?
I use Burdick and Jackson.
