Dear all,

I have tried to synthesis ethyl shikimate in my laboratory using the thionyl chloride method.
After the reaction was completed, recrystallization was carried out in EtOAc, I tried to analyse my product using HPLC-UV at 213nm. However no major peak (big) was detected (not even the starting material).

Anyone of use carried out the synthesis before and how you determine the purity as well as yield of your reaction.

My HPLC condition is as following:-

Column Zorbax C18 150x4.6mm
Eluent : (1%H3PO4/ MeOH) (97:3)- shikimic acid peak usually come out at 2.75mins under this condition.
Detector: UV at 213nm
