Disabling detector on HP 5890 series II

Hi,
I have an HP 5890 that I suspect the detector board is faulty. On start up it gives the error Fault : DETB TEMP RDG. I have checked the thermocouples and they are all ok. Is there a way to just disable it so I can use the instrument? Will removing the board do this?
Thanks in advance.

That's what I would try, then the unit will "think" that it only has one detector in there.
Maybe you could swap your "good" board into that spot to see if that proves to you that the board itself is the issue, and not just a bad FID heater or sensor.
Parts to fix, maybe even used FID board, should be available, maybe through 3rd party vendors or some (no names) who keep used parts around.

It is a long time since I used a 5890, but I seem to remember that the detector boards only handled the detector signal. The detector temperature was controlled directly from the main board.

Thanks for the replies. The board has been taken out and it still gives the same error. Back to the drawing board.

shoom,
You need to remove the RTD connector and heater connector for that detector from the main board. They are located at the upper right hand side of the mother board. The error you are getting is not related to the FID electronics, it is related to the RTD.
