column selection for GC analysis of N-methylimidazole

Hello!

We are looking at quantifying N-methylimidazole via GC/FID. I'm uncertain how to choose a column. Do I look for columns that do well with semi-volatiles? Or can I assume that it will act similar to an all hydrocarbon molecule of the same configuration? I've Googled various combinations of many terms that describe n-methylimidazole, and I have yet to find a response that points directly to a column. Nor have I had much luck looking directly at catalogs.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

A wax column deactivated for bases would be an acceptable capillary column.

A thick film 624 or 1301 capillary column would also suffice.

One would not need a 30 meter column but a 15 meter or less would be adequate. I would also consider a 0.32 or a 0.53mm ID as a better choice rather than a 0.25mm ID.

Be aware that any Lewis acid components in your sample or active sites in your GC flow path will cause inaccuracies and/or tailing.

A nice packed 10% Apiezon L with 2% KOH in glass would work nicely. One could also use a Chromosorb 101 porous polymer glass column as well in a pinch.

Are these enough options for you to try?
