Hello, I need to configure an instrument for pharmaceutical quality control. I thought of an alliance with PDA detector and an RI (refraction index), my question is whether you need one of fluorescence and conductivity?¿

PDA photodiode array: to use in quantification of APIs and impuritys. is very advantage for evaluate the selectivity y validation?
what about the manufacturers? which are more suitable and why? Waters, Agilent, Shimadzu...
thanks!

it really depends on what you do, but you will find out that PDA is more preferable in order to do part of the research and development.
but for impurities if you want to have a better LOD and LOQ in the end a single wavelenght with monochromatic detector is better
and do not be fooled by uv detectors that can get you several channels in parallel. these generally have a PDA optic and so they have a lot of noise

what is your field of products?
RI means you are doing something that has no chromophore.
so why not ELSD, CAD?
instead if you need to get a very sensitive application then the fluorescence detector is better than RI, but you will need to add the derivatization step to your products and check for their stability.

which vendor will also depend on what you do, the budget you have and the level of support you think you need. a good support means that in the long run you will save a lot of money .
you need to check them all, because they will all claim to be the best and everybody has is preferred brand. and in most cases it is because of the after sale support. i like dionex-oops thermo now, and agilent for example.
check the software you will use. if you need GLP, then some are better than others. ease of use, the capability to do automated calculations for everything is also a big time and money saver.
i think nothing beats Chromeleon. since the new charting tool they added we process results even faster

really a lot of subjective elements involved

what is your field of products?
solids, semisolids and liquids.

I think about PDA + UV, i don't wrong in this election, but i will need another detector? but our production in very variabe. a few excipiens need RI, RI is not really necesary..
in the future i need process samples of antibiotics and oncologics, but now process AINES, enalapril, ranitidine, albendazole, gentamicine topic cream and others similar.
thanks for your help
