Lightnig the FID on Shimadzu GC-17A

Q: Is there a fool-proof way to get this FID lit? Our procedure has been to have N2/50 kPa, H2/50 kPa, air/50 kPa when running and to hike the H2 up to 100 kPa for lighting. But this is really hit and miss, and today I am having no luck with that whatsoever.
Suggestions?

When igniting turn the make up gas off, and turn the air down to about half its running value. Check your flow rates in any case with a flow meter - the pressure readings do not tell you what you are actually putting through the detector.

When was the last tiem the glowplug was replaced? Also check the filament is in contact with the gas stream

Check the flame jet , it may be partially blocked.
Also check the ferrule at the detector side and tighten if necessary.
65 Kpa for Hydrogen and 50 Kpa for Air are standard pressures for optimum flow rates for Shimadzu.
