My lab has two GC (HP 5980 Series II) and we would like to replace the old integrator with computer program for data acquisition.

Our university provides LabVIEW which we would like to try on first. I was told by Agilent technique support that LabVIEW might be able to communicate with GC 5890 through a RS-232 board plus a RS-232 cable. So I called the sales department of this board, however, their technician told me that they have never tried this board with LabVIEW, and special configuration might be necessary.

I am a little bit confused right now. Nobody in our lab has experience with LabVIEW, and there seems to be no information online that well matches my case. Could anybody here give me some suggestion on this problem or where to find such information? Any input would be very much appreciated!
yurong84,

Willstein sells a Labview package for getting data from a 5890. You might start by looking there.

Best regards,

AICMM
AICMM,

Thank you!
I just checked their website. They do have a very good package for GC 5890 data acquisition. And the information they provide on hardware configuration is quite helpful.
Since we are on a low budget, I was hoping to find a more straightforward way to connect the GC with computer, so that we can directly use the licensed LabVIEW from our university. But this specially designed Willstein package looks so ready made that we might give it a try.

Rong

Dear Yorong84,

there is software package Unichrom ( www.unichrom.com) to work with different analytical equipment (www.unichrom.com/matrix-gce.shtml ) in unified style. Installation is here www.unichrom.com/dle.php .

If You have questions, please, write on the following e-mail : unichrom@unichrom.com

Regards,
Siarhei
Thank you Siarhei! That looks like a very good package. I will definitely give it a try! :D
