Hi all:

We have problems purchasing ammonium perchlorate (Explosive!) do you think we can replace it with ammonium acetate? We have a mobile phase with ammonium perchlorate in methanol about 1 g/liter.
Any suggestion will be wellcome!

The perchlorate ion is more soluble in high organic than other salts. What is your method, column?

if the perchlorat ion is not used for a known reason others than as buffer salt, it probably should be replaceable with ammonium acetate or formiat or others but keeping th pH constant.

If the perchlorat is indeed needed, why not use perchloric acid and ammonia and mix/titrate them in the proper ratio?. I guess, these solutions are less hard to purchase, but you would introduce water into your methanol...

Just make it yourself by mixing ammonia and perchloric acid (be careful doing this)

Sorry but I was enyoing a few days out of work, the method is for cinnarizine using an RP 18 (250 x 4.6 mm) 1 ml/min. @ 254 nm.

And the final concentration fo ammonium perchlorate is 0.02 mg/ml in methanol for mobile phase.
