pH stable HILIC

Are there non-silica HILIC columns? Could a methacrylate polymeric support work in HILIC mode?

What about a PSDVB base material made with penta hydroxymethyl styrene? Could this work as a stationary phase for HILIC separation?

Almost anything can be made to work in the HILIC mode except for a totally encapsulated C-18 material, provided you're willing to use a level of organic solvent that's high enough. Whether it's a good idea to use such is another matter. The less hydrophilic a material is - per these polymeric materials - the more organic solvent you need to get a given degree of retention of an analyte. What's so interesting about these materials?

Sequant has a polymeric HILIC column, the ZIC p-HILIC. Usually polymeric columns are used when silica columns are too active, such as with phosphates, phosphonates, etc. Otherwise, silica columns offer a wider variety of chemistires and typically better performance.
