Esterification of acid in methanol mobile phase

Hello,

If I am preparing a 100% methanol mobile phase (assume it is dry) and I am adding an organic acid as a modifier, does anyone know how fast the esterification reaction will be (formation of methyl formate and concomitant reduction in the amount of formic acid)? I know it depends on acid concentration, etc. but if anyone has any guidelines or a reference I would appreciate it.

Chris
Esters are odoriferous.. Take whiff of it after one day and I bet you "detect" some ester.
