Elution by GC

Hi,
I have GC with packed column. I like to analysis glycerine and propylene glycol. I do not know from where I suppose to start? I need help.

Do you know how to operate the GC?

What kind of column do you have in the isntrument? Do you have others available?

What kind of detector is on the GC?

What kind of samples do you have?

What concentration range are you expecting for the analytes?

What kind of detector is on the GC? 5890 Series II

What kind of samples do you have? mostly contains iodine, glycerine, propylene glycol, water

What concentration range are you expecting for the analytes?
may be 5% to 20% or more or less

I can find a reference to an analysis which examines glycerin and a propane diol on Chromosorb 101: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article ... 1-0031.pdf

I am not sure that you want to introduce elemental iodine into the GC as it is an oxidizer. Perhaps soneone else on this site will have a good idea on that aspect.

Depending on the dimensions of your column, the column flow may differ from that used in the paper above.

While you say the mixture is mostly iodine, glycerin, PG and water, the remainder of the mixture needs to be taken into consideration.

We assay mixtures of propylene glycol and glycerin routinely. We dissolve in DMF and use trimethylsilyl derivatization, assay on DB-1 or DB-5 type capillaries. There have been procedures published for these in consumer products decades ago.
