hello everybody
i want to buy a new hplc , i have received quotations from waters and shimadzu............
so any one can tell me the advantages of waters hplc over shimadzu hplc bcz waters hplc price is higher than shimadzu.........

thank u in advance

The most significant advantages/disadvantages may have nothing to do with the hardware.

Where are you located?
How good is each company at providing service and support to your particular location?
Do you already have a data system in place?
Do you have any experience with data systems from either vendor?
Have you priced service contracts for prospective new instruments w/ each vendor?

As far as the hardware goes, I've heard that Breeze autosamplers are not as reliable as Alliance autosamplers. Shimadzu probably has the more sensitive/quiet DAD, especially if you plan to use a CDS other than Empower. UV detection and pump manners are probably about a toss-up if you stay w/ low-pressure gradient mixing designs.
Thanks,
DR

thanx for the reply.
i m from pakistan;
both shimadzu and waters will give after sales service facility in my area,
but i have not much experience about HPLC,s ....
so what are the most important things that i would have to ask from vendors

and you're absolutely right that important advantage r disadvantage is to do nothing with the hardware( trouble free)
If you're buying a data system to go with the HPLC, I'd ask for demonstrations and information about the data systems. Depending on the type of samples you plan to run and the complexity of the reports needed, one or the other may stand out as the better value. Waters and Shimadzu pretty well represent either end of the spectrum with respect to power and complexity of data systems. Shimadzu's is relatively easy to learn and can do a solid job of putting out basic reports. If you need lots of more complicated calculations, Waters' system may be more appropriate for you despite the steeper learning curve.
Thanks,
DR

A list of three references to existing customers whom you can contact about their experience with that vendor.

Your location Sir,
Bcoz it is very important If it is from Pakistan then you have to careful. There is no proper service support available from Waters Distributors who splits into 3 companies support system in Pakistan. I worked for Waters products in Pakistan for 18 years and run my own company , selling re furbished Waters LC systems. Speaking about the comparison, there is not so much difference between the costs now a days and waters instrumentation quality is always great specially the software and the modules long lasting performances. The spares consumption is too much and expensive with Shimadzu who makes the SLAVES by selling at reduced cost and made up margins on spares and consumables.

Brother....Most important thing is Service after sale. So this thing u only can find out from the existing users around ur place. U have to do little survey before u buy.
Trust me, I am working on Agilent's UHPLC. For that machine say, its extra ordinary. But maintenance is a big problem which i never faced on my previous machine (waters). Service is also very BAD. They charge very very high. Its just like buying elephant is easy but maintenance is damn difficult.

So, before buy find out about the service. As u told ur a new user. So the sellers should provide u good service. Don't forget to add service option for few years while purchasing.

Rather buying an extra ordinary machine..buy a robust rugged one with good service so that ur work will not stop because of machine. People may say its easy to blame machine. But its true, service is not good then it ll make the work life hell.
