Dear all, I have been asigned the procurement of a GC-FID for simple determinations (FAMEs, carbohydrates, essential oils). I have boiled down my options to Thermo Finnigan (Trace GC Ultra), or Agilent (7890). Could you please advice? The cost is not an issue, but the dependability of the instrument. I am not conversant with Finnigan.

Either system will perform well, I have customers who use both instruments.
Personally I prefer Agilent. The 7890 is easy to work on, the software is stable, and will be supported by Agilent for a very long time.

Just a hint: Stay away from any Thermo Finnigan GC product. You'll experience serious buyer's regret otherwise.
