PAH in sediment samples by QUECHERS, "SULPHUR" problem

Hello everyone,
I will study PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) in sediment samples.
I want to use QUECHERS method and then GC-MS analyse. At this point which QUECHERS is the best for PAHs in sediment samples, AOAC or EN method and which kits is suitable for this analysis.
And another question: is QUECHERS kit enough for removing sulphur from sediment samples?

No, you need add some copper beads into the Quechers tube or during the cleanup step to remove sulfur.
Hi,

I recommend the original method since PAHs do not require buffering. The original method extracts with magnesium sulfate and sodium chloride. Make sure that your centrifuge tubes do not contain measurable levels of PAHs.

I want to study with "ready to use activated copper". May I use it or prepare manually activate copper, which is your suggestion? And is there any method (AOAC or EU or another one), if yes please send it to me.

Hi Enis,

The easiest thing is to purchase copper that is ready to use. Another option is to purchase and prepare your own copper. Refer to EPA Method 3660B.
