One of the issues with developing methods on the new "UHPLC" systems is that those methods typically are not backward compatible. That means that UHPLC methods must be scaled to adapt them to older instruments with lower pressure / larger volume / slower data acquisition properties.

We have put together a spreadsheet that handles the scaling calculations for you. You put in your UHPLC conditions and your HPLC requirements (particle size, pressure , and column diameter) and the spreadsheet calculates the required column length, flow rate, injection volume and (optionally) gradient time scaling factor. I'll put in a disclaimer here: the calculations are only approximations and the conditions will probably have to be tweaked. We make no guarantees about accuracy, so you use this at your own risk!

You can get the spreadsheet by sending an e-mail to:

You will receive an automated e-mail reply with the download link. If you have a firewall or spam filters in place, please make sure that e-mail from lcresources.com is "whitelisted" so that it gets through.

What's the catch? We want to get you on our mailing list to receive notifications of our upcoming HPLC courses. You will be able to unsubscribe from the list at any time.
