ESCi mode for Xevo - few simple questions

Hi,

Does anyone here have some knowledge and experience with ESCi mode for Xevo TQ?

I need to develop several methods and I know some of them are going to be using ESI while other - APCI. I am thinking about setting up my equipment for ESCi mode from the start (before development) instead of changing probe from APCI to ESI and back as required by applications, but I'm not sure about two things:
1. Is there no problem in running ESI while corona pin is installed? (I'm wondering about things like damage to the pin.)
2. Is there really no difference between APCI using proper probe and APCI in ESCi mode? After all APCI probe have heating element, while ESI (used in ESCi) does not.

Is there anything else I should know, consider, be aware of etc?

Hi,

ESCi is actually an electrospray source where a corona needle is added to do APCI-like ionization, but performances are far from a real APCI probe. We tested it before we had an APCI probe and results were not conclusive for us. If you are in contact with a Waters rep, try to get an APCI probe for testing and you will be able to compare both configurations.

If you wish to run ESI, just remove the corona needle, it takes less than 20 sec. I guess after some time things can get deposited on the pin and reduce its efficiency.

I already have APCI probe, I was just thinking how to make my life easier. :)
