Ion exchange using DOWEX

Hi all, I am new to the forum. I am a student at the University of Vigo, Spain. I have a barium salt, with a lot of solubility problems, and impurities, I guess, that gave rise to a lot of weird peaks in the proton NMR spectrum, and so, I wanted to exchange the Barium cations with a DOWEX 50x8 acidic resin. The resin was in the lab for a long time, and nobody knows about a correct protocol to use it. It would be of great help if you could give me a hint on the matter, because I was told to just dissolve my molecule in the minimum amount of water possible, add the resin and stir the mixture, and then just filtrate it using a vacuum pump and I would therefore obtain my molecule in the protonated form. I tried this, but the proton spectrum of what was left when I evaporated the solvent, was not what I expected. I also have the possibility to use an Amberlite IRP-689-Ion exchange resin, which has sulfonic acid funcionality, in its sodium form, and I have a protocol to activate it to its acidic form. I also tried this, but when I eluted the column, I didn´t obtain my molecule neither...
