We need to have an authorized ID to login company intra-net PC, also the PC has time-out funtion. In this case, do we still need Empower 2 time-out option? The Empower time-out function requires to enter password for each opened Empower window, it is pain for chemist while doing run, data process and reporting.
I don't see more benifit using two level security. Does your GXP lab have two levels of security: PC + Empower?

This is strictly a function of your own company's attempt to be GxP compliant.
In other words, consult your SOPs. If they say that having a computer's OS time out, forcing a login, is adequate; you should be able to have your Empower admin. lift that system's timeout (unless, of course, he/she is required to maintain one because another SOP tells him/her to).
Alternative strategy - assuming you have an optical mouse, have you ever tried leaving it inverted or dangling over the edge of your desk or bench? Sometimes doing this will prevent timing out.

HAHA, playing with an optical mouse is a creative idea!
Now we are doing the database updating and validation. We need to generate SOP for time-out function if needed. At this point we have only one chemist for HPLC operation. I am trying to suggest team not to use Emower time-out since we aready have PC secruty for access. Does it make sense?

We recently got new waters systems on a new network and we have to login to computer and empower, I think it is pointless and a pain. Also for the windows login we have to change our password every 3 months (and it's really picky), yet Empower always stays the same. I think Empower having a pass would be quite sufficient.

it does not matter where you put the restriction
as long as it is there
i know places that have it both also the OS and the CDS,
you really need only one
if you use several key related softwares then the OS lock is better
in any case you need to make sure that it is set correctly, and that in which ever place that you set it up, you have someone doing it and knowing what he is doing
once we had to go PC by PC and see that for every user the lock was working because IT did some changes in the global policies and new users did not get the lock option set up.
I agree the waters bug of the lock windows is a pain. and they should fix it but they do not look that have any intention to do it
mind you there is a small tip. after the first time, do cancel on the other windows, it will save you a little time on that stupid bug
