Chromium (VI) with conventional HPLC and IE-column

I was wondering if I could run a Cr(VI) post-column application on a normal HPLC (which means, no inert pumps or autosampler) using diphenylcarbazide as post-column reagens.

This would be a perfect solution and I would not have to buy an expensive IC for just this analysis.

I actually have no experience with this application and HPLC components. But I would give it a try. If your baseline stays stable over time with only little absorbance it will be a possibility. If you replace as much as possible of the stainless steel (capillaries, connectors...). you will reduce that potential influence even more.

Marcus is correct in pointing out the elimination of stainless steel in the flow path is crucial, I know users who have tried this on standard HPLC units with poor outcomes due to the Cr Blank issues limiting detection.
