Validation of thermal conductivity detector (TCD)

Hi all,

My question is bit open ended.

I have to validate a TCD which one of my friends has developed. I have chosen air as my first analyte. It contains about 0.04% of CO2 which I am trying to detect. I am using Molecular Sieve and Porapak-Q packed columns with H2 as carrier. I have kept the carrier flow at 30ml/min, just to make sure that I do not burn my friend's first creation :). All heated zones of the GC, e.g. injector, oven, and the detector block, are at room temperature (~25C).

I am expecting you to report the best result that you have seen for atmospheric CO2 detection using a TCD GC. Also please give other parameters, e.g. injected volume, detector current, and column.

Thanks,
Krish

so not use sieve unless you are using 13x.

the q column should be fine.

inject 1mL or less.

good luck
