Hello!
I found an old 5972 MSD on the roof and started it. I can't get any connection to my PC and tried already some options that should have worked. The lights on the front of the MSD are blinking permanently, what could that mean?
If the lights are blinking, it means that the instrument is not communicating with your computer. What are the options you explored already? Maybe the "Remote" port at the back is damaged.

What software are you trying to link with? Also, try restarting the pc while the MSD is on. If I remember correctly, my colleague had some sort of 'memory referencing bug' that he was able to work around by restarting his pc. Though this is not likely to work in your case, it's worth a shot.
Thank you for your comment! I've already tried to restart PC while MSD is running but it never worked. Which software and gpib driver do you recommend for this? Now I've installed F.01.02 with G1701AA and it does not work. I've also tried G1701BA and a newer version.
Setting up GPIB must be done precisely or it just won't communicate. Was it already configured or did you set it up yourself?
Here are some documents which may help you depending on what GPIB card you're using.

also, do you store all your unused equipment on the roof? lol
Thank you again! I meant they're stored in the attic :D. I've tried to set up a new computer with Win 2000. But it seems to be a too new version of Windows, am I wrong?
I read that too new Windows will not communicate with smart card in 5971 and 5972. We still use Windows 95 with our 5972.
I think you need an earlier version of Chemstation. I am running an old 6890 ( HPIB) and am running the latest rev that will support HPIB== D.03.
