this is the first time I post on this forum. I discovered it a few weeks ago, when, looking for information about refurbished LC-MS hardware, Google addressed me to it. First I want to say thank you to all the people actively collaborating for the useful info they are giving and for the precious time and experience they are sparing. I hope to join the club as soon as I will get a bit more experience and hands-on time. But now, to the kernel.

Long story short, my lab is going to buy a refurbished Micromass LCTof for small molecule analysis. We are currently evaluating a couple of offers that look pretty similar. After some Googling I discovered that under the name LCT various models have been sold. Does anybody have an idea of the differences? I am now waiting the dealers to give me some more info I asked them, such as the exact year and serial number. More to come soon.

I am not sure, but I think I remember the LCT operates in V mode and has 5000-6000 resolution, while the LCT Premier can work in W mode with 10'000 resolution. Please someone corrects if I am wrong. For detailed information, you may contact a Waters engineer that used to work for Micromass (there should be some on that forum!!).

Hope you are not going to pay very much for it ? The LCT was the first (one of the first ?) LC TOF systems and is very much out performed by all the current offerings. The early version was massively compromised regarding the play off between speed of analysis and resolution. Have you checked the level of support available ? The LCT was not produced in massive numbers and some parts may no longer be available ?

No, it's going to be cheap. That's the reason we're going for it. Basically for our limited budget, we can still get that and it's not much mure than a quad of the same age. Everything more recent is too much, including Q, QqQ, etc... We could get an ion trap, but we discarded the idea because we needto operate the machine in direct injection from complex matrixes, so we would have problems with the IT. The serial id KC358, we've been told that this one of the last machines with the 3.6 GhZ ADC.
