SPME, VOC, sampling time and solvent cut time

I am a new user of SPME. I will use SPME to analyze VOC. I check the paper in Supelco for the detail about inj. The condition paper suggested is: “splitless, 230C, closed 3 min.” I am not sure about “closed 3 min”. Does it refer to the interval between the time of SPME fiber expose in the injection port and the time at which the split flow vent valve is opened?

If my understanding is right, I have to setup “sampling time” in my Shimadzu (QP2010+) software GCMSsolution for 3 min. But it causes a problem that the “solvent cut time” has to be at least 3 min. as Shimadzu software GCMSsolution requires that “solvent cut time” is not shorter than “sampling time”. However, for VOCs the retention time is less than 3 min. Can anyone have any suggestion for me to have 3 min. sampling time and 0-0,5 min solvent cut time?

Thanks a lot.
We do VOC's by SPME and use a cryo module . You may need one or get a lomger column. Beware that if you do not use cryo your peaks will be quite broad.
